Day Before Training
Stage Five

Once the Trial Runs have been completed, the department is ready to begin its first level Green Room meeting. However, before this can happen, it is vital that the people who are going to be the participants in the meeting and whose meeting this is, understand the philosophy behind the system.
While the company can use as many means as possible to alert it’s people of the coming system, nothing is more effective than to focus on the actual group of people who are going to be the participants in the process. Therefore, through a process of presentations lasting approximately 45 minutes, QCD describes the QCDSM System to each start-up group so that they can get a good, overall understanding of what the process is about.
Following this, there is an offical ‘hand over’ to that area. The trained leaders of the meetings now take this same group of people into their Green Room and spend 45 minutes talking through the charts, explaining the charts and the reasons for them. As the leaders have already accumulated 2-4 weeks of ‘real data’ from conducting the Trial Run, they are in a good position to demonstrate the workings of the Green Room using this real data. It has often occurred that even though this is not the first Green Room meeting as such, many ideas, suggestions and comments emerge from this training session and the process is already off to an excellent start.
We have found that this methodology has been most effective in the sharing of good information, answering questions and concerns, and literally inviting all present to become part of the process right from the start. Very rarely does this method create problems and difficulties, although if it does, it is usually because the leaders have not done their trials correctly. It could also mean that the management is not fully behind the process or that the commitment by them is not evident. The success of the QCDSM is, therefore, the result of the commitment of the company and not the commitment and enthusiasm of the consultants.
Start Up
The very next day at the appointed times, the first level Green Room meetings commence. These are followed by the 2nd level meetings then the next levels up. The company has now embarked on its journey to excellence and what is now required is commitment, enthusiasm and creativity.
